About me
Stephen Malloy Brackett, a proud Denver native, embodies the heart of artistic activism in Colorado. His journey from computer science student to philosophy graduate at Colorado State University laid the groundwork for a career that is equal parts creative and purpose-driven.
As a founding member of the acclaimed band Flobots since 1994, Stephen’s musical journey has left a significant mark. His songwriting prowess, recognized when the Denver Post named him "Songwriter of the Year" in 2010, has carried his voice to global audiences. The band's platinum hit "Handlebars" not only showcased his artistry but opened opportunities to share stages with luminaries like Desmond Tutu and Bernie Sanders.
But Stephen’s impact doesn’t stop with music. In 2008, he co-founded Youth on Record, an organization transforming the lives of Colorado's young people through the power of music education. Today, he serves as the Executive Director of Foundation Music School and helms The 87 Foundation, continually striving to make arts education and therapy accessible to all.
In 2019, his dedication was honored when Governor Jared Polis appointed him Colorado's Statewide Music Ambassador, a role that enables him to champion the state's rich and diverse music culture and advocate for emerging artists.
Stephen’s work gracefully intertwines the worlds of arts, activism, and education. Yet, he approaches each endeavor with humility and a steadfast belief in the power of collective action, making him a transformative force in Colorado’s cultural landscape and a relentless advocate for using art to foster meaningful change.
